Sleipnir and Virago

Sleipnir is the eight-legged horse of the Norse God Odin, described as the best of all horses, capable of taking its rider to Hel and back. Here is an adaptation of a traditional stone carving, ridden in this tattoo by a woman, appropriate for the lady equestrienne who commissioned it. A virago is a woman who demonstrates exemplary and heroic qualities. The word comes from the Latin word virāgō meaning variously 'a man-like, vigorous, heroic maiden, a female warrior, heroine..'
